A Dating Faux Pas

Happy Friday Purgators!

Have you ever been on a date where someone did something that left you saying, wtf? Well I have and that’s what this story is about.

Steven and I met on OKCupid, I was initially attracted to his sense of humour and admired the fact that he started our conversation off with a joke. We began talking on the week of a national holiday and the only day we were both free happened to be that afternoon.

We met at one of the only bars that was open that day. Our conversation was good, we talked a lot (actually, he talked a lot) but things were flowing nicely, that is until the dreaded faux pas. His phone started to ring, he reached in his pocked and told me to hold on a moment while he answered the call. He had mentioned earlier that his aunt was in the hospital so I assumed the phone call was regarding that. After a couple minutes into his phone convo I realized it had nothing to do with his aunt. He then got off the phone, apologized and explained that it was his friend making plans for later that evening. How rude (Stephanie Tanner voice).

I don’t ever look at my cellphone on a date unless one of us is in the washroom so the fact that he straight up answered his phone was a major no no for me. I ended the date by telling him I had a nice time, which I did but unsure if I wanted to see him again.

We continued to text for the next few days and conversation was okay until he invited me over to his place to hook up. It was at that moment I realized I had zero interest in him and abruptly ended the conversation, I was done.

Takeaway Message: I don’t care who you are it is never polite or acceptable to answer your cellphone on a first date. I wouldn’t answer my phone on a friend date let alone a romantic date and I hope you wouldn’t either.

xoxo

It IS a bad sign; good for you! A girl’s gotta know where to set the bar…and how high!

Thanks girl! At the time I was trying to justify it and looking back, I’m glad I didn’t follow through with the justification! 🙅🏻
