At the beginning of April we decided to do something a little out of the box. After a couple dud dates and a deep conversation about our dating struggles we decided to cut ties with our beloved dating apps and go cold turkey for the month of April.
Initially it felt really liberating but we were warned via our Twitter fam that it may not last long. Alas, here we are literally two weeks later to the day and we’re still going strong, hardly missing the apps (well maybe just a little).
As we love to say, let us break it down for you.
Upon deleting my dating apps I felt relieved and the fact that The Brunette would be joining me on this so-called detox made things even better – it’s easier to swear off dating apps when your bestie isn’t going on a bunch of first dates.
I didn’t use Tinder and Bumble much before the detox other than out of sheer boredom so it came as no surprise that swearing off the apps hasn’t really been much of a challenge, in fact I completely forgot they weren’t there until yesterday.
Even though I didn’t use my dating apps a lot in the first place, it feels nice to know that they’re not there lingering on my phone. Out of sight, out of mind.
I decided to delete my dating apps because I wanted to support The Blonde in solitude and confinement, however I knew secretly knew that I needed a break as well.
The past two weeks have been fairly easy and I haven’t had many urges of relapse. I think the one major thing for me is curiosity, knowing the apps are still active and the thought of people messaging me can be a little tempting at times.
I have realized how beneficial and much needed this dating detox has been for me and I plan to carry it on for as long as I can.
We both intend to keep our dating apps dormant for as long as possible, you wouldn’t believe how refreshing and liberating it is not to have them around. If by chance Mr. Right(now) is currently on one of those dating apps, well then he will surely be there when we decide to go back.
Have you been on a dating detox? Or maybe you’re currently on one or decided to join us in our month of dating solitude like our good friend Demitrius. Either way, we’d love to hear from you on how your personal journey is going.
